Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) returns for its winter/festive 2014 edition, held from August 20-24 in Mumbai. Whilst previous fashion weeks saw the Grand Hyatt Hotel as its venue,Mumbai's Palladium Hotel will host the event this year. Here's why you can't miss it.
- A dual opening show: The week will begin with a show featuring both Amit Aggarwal and Masaba Gupta, designers known for their distinctive styles. The show will mark Aggarwal and Gupta's debut as opening designers and, also, the first time the two have shown together. With Masaba’s signature bold styles and Amit’s avant-garde take on futurism, the mix should be interesting.
- The stellar line-up: Shantanu & Nikhil, Anita Dongre, Gaurav Gupta, Little Shilpa, Neeta Lulla, Payal Singhal, Anju Modi and more. Enough said.
- A Manish Malhotra finale feat. showstopper Kareena Kapoor Khan: The last time they collaborated was in 2011, on the same platform. Taking his bridal trousseau one step further, Malhotra's collection wil be inspired by the 'gloss look' created by Lakmé. The designer will also partner with Lakmé make-up expert Cory Walia, to create the Lakmé Absolute Bridal Dream Team for fashion and beauty.
- Debut showing of Australian and Pakistani designers: Renowned Australian design duo, Pamela Easton and Lydia Pearson, of the label Easton Pearson, will debut their collection at LFW, marking their entry into the Indian market. LFW will also be welcoming four Pakistani designers: Faiza Samee, Rizwan Beyg, Sania Maskatiya and Zara Shahjahan will debut in India with a show on August 22.
- Collections by River Island and Miss Selfridge via Jabong.com: LFW winter/festive 2014 will see the official arrival of two hot British high street fashion brands in India, River Island and Miss Selfridge. River Island, which has been available on Jabong, will showcase its A/W collection on the runway for the first time. Miss Selfridge, however, will be stepping foot onto Indian shores for the very first time.
- Live streaming from Palladium hotel. Can't attend in person? The show, held on the 8th and 9th floor of the Palladium Hotel, Lower Parel, will be live streamed on Lakmé Fashion Week's YouTube channel.
